Course Description

Shamanic practices, such as the shamanic journey, have been used for tens of thousands of years. They are a form of meditation that uses rhythm, such as drumming, to create the mental context for connecting and interacting with Spirit.

The journey is an accessible and powerful way to engage directly with wisdom through working with teachers and guides, such as animal spirits. It is a doorway through which you can enter non-ordinary reality—the Spirit World—for insights, guidance, and inspiration. Many people who have difficulty with traditional meditation practices find that the shamanic journey works better for them.

This course includes not only videos describing journey, but also a downloadable 16-minute audio soundtrack with guided imagery to help you to begin your journey practice.

The Shamanic Journey course is an introduction to a larger world... the world of Spirit.

Senior Instructor Gerry Starnes

Gerry Starnes, M.Ed., is an Austin, Texas area teacher, facilitator, and shamanic practitioner. He is the author of the award-winning book, "Spirit Paths: The Quest for Authenticity", and many other spirit-oriented publications. A light-hearted and engaging speaker, Gerry has offered workshops and presentation for more than 20 years. In 2003, he established the first shamanic journey circle in Austin, which still continues weekly. He created the six-month immersive Spirit Paths program, the basis for the book. He also has created more than 50 videos on shamanic topics, hosted in the Shamanic Passages YouTube channel, which has more than 10K subscribers.

I've always thoroughly enjoyed Native American culture. When I decided to begin my spiritual journey away from the unwelcoming Lutheran church, I first took an online quiz that suggested Taoism. My Dad recently having converted from Atheism to Buddhism, I felt this was a good step for me. But it was only a step. When I studied further, I realized that Nature needed to be my guide, my teacher, and my spirituality -- so I studied and found Shamanism. I've been studying off & on for months. This course was GREAT. I am so glad I did it, especially today when I'm having a really hard time with my PTSD symptoms. Thank you so much for this course, Mr. Starnes. This is a very clear and concise description, experience, and follow-up to introduce journeying. The length of each segment makes it easy to fit into my day. The fact that there was actually drumming for a journey and follow-up instructions is very important and useful. I appreciate the reminders not to try to compare my journey experience to anyone else's. Comparing can make things confusing. This class gave me a complete overview of the basics and a direction for continuing. It fulfills its purpose of being an introduction.

Gerry's contribution to the Shamanic Community is a very exceptional one. In none of the books and videos I read and watched to learn journeying is ever mentioned the amazing role imagination plays into the Shamanic Journey. The night I got this course and after devouring Gerry's insights and instructions I tried journeying again and I have to say: I had the most extraordinary experience, one that I will never forget.
